14 hours on the PCH

You non-California’s are probably clueless when it comes to the title of this blog. You might ask, “What is the PCH?” Let me fill you in; the PCH is short for the Pacific Coast Highway, and not to disappoint you, but you haven’t lived until you have drove the PCH through Big Sur and Monterey. Here, you will see the best parts of God’s beautiful and massive creation. In a non-cliche’ or corny way, it changed my life.

So Saturday morning 7:00am sharp, two of my friends and I departed for our beautiful drive on the PCH all the way to San Francisco. Little did we know this drive would take 14 hours. Luckily, the coast was beyond gorgeous and we were constantly making stops in an attempt to fully take in the beauty around us.

Saturday night we stayed in a hostel. Yes, a hostel. As in, we slept in a room with three other complete strangers. Was it scary? Absolutely. We arrived at 11:00pm, and checked in. We were given our key codes and bed sheets (yes, we had to make our own beds). We walked into this room where there were three bunk beds all side by side, and of course, the three bottom bunks were taken. In attempt to be as quiet as possible so we don’t wake these strangers, we made our way to our top bunks to quietly make our beds. Because I didn’t know these people nor trust them with my things, I cuddled with them. Let me say, my Samantha Brown bag wasn’t a great cuddle partner.

When we woke, we explored San Francisco! The Golden Gate Bridge was stunning, although the fog was insane. We also went and saw the Full House house, and the painted ladies. San Francisco is definitely beautiful!

When we got back to Los Angeles, we attended a student alumni mixer at a beautiful restaurant in Hollywood. I got to meet people from UGA who actually lived out their dream of living and pursuing a career in Los Angeles. It really gave me the push I needed in moving to LA after I graduate. I couldn’t be more excited for my future. Only 2 more short weeks left here in this beautiful city.

Orange Is the New Black Scores Big in Emmy Race

Ok so, since I’ve recently been binge watching Orange Is the New Black, I figured this post was appropriate. As the title tells and according to The Hollywood Reporter, Jenji Kohan’s Orange is the New Black Netflix series has scored big in the Emmy race! “Despite considerable uncertainty with regard to genre and a cast of characters rarely seen on television, Jenji Kohan’s hourlong prison dramedy picked up 12 Emmy nominations to lead the comedy category on Thursday, including top honor for best comedy series.” Come August, it will be competing against Louie, Veep, Modern Family, Silicon Valleyand The Big Bang Theory at the 66th annual awards show. Orange Is the New Black definitely has my vote. If you readers haven’t yet to start it I highly suggest you start! Taylor Schilling is amazing, and I promise you’ll be hooked.

Industry News

Ok so, my weekly news post this week lacks specific information (I signed an NDA), however, it’s still interesting. Don’t leave, keep reading! So IM Global is currently working on a film called Viral, and it’s currently in post-production. After meeting with one of the execs in the office and explaining what i’m interested in, he gave me a rather large project that fit my interest exactly. He was going to show me each step of the process to create a film. So he introduced me to Viral. He gave me a series of steps to complete, and after each step we have to get together and discuss my thoughts and opinions.

Step 1: Read the draft script
Step 2: Read the actual production script
Step 3: Talk about budgeting, distributing, shooting, casting, etc.
Step 4: Watch the dailies from production.

This project has taught me so much about the process of producing films. I have never been so anxious to learn, ever. I got to see the changes they made from the draft, why they changed them, what the budget was, why this was the budget, etc. I am honestly so lucky to be interning with a company that truly cares to see their interns grow and learn more about an industry that we are so passionate about. I can’t exactly discuss when Viral will make its release, but know that when it does, you MUST watch it!

CAMERON DIAZ SPOKE WORDS TO ME!! Yes, indeed she did. I bet you’re freaking out right now, so I should explain. My room-mate and I decided to attend the Premiere of the film Sex Tape starring Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel. No, we weren’t actually going into the movie, because the ticket prices were absurd. So instead we thought that we would just get there really early and get front row to see all the celebrities walking into the theatre. Standing in front of the red carpet we got to see:

RJ Mitte – Walter White Jr. in Breaking Bad
Jim O’Heir – Jerry from Parks and Recreation
Hannah Simone – Cece from New Girl

We waited FOREVER for Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel to make their way down the carpet. Before we even got the chance to see them, we were given two tickets to attend the premiere by some security person! I was shaking I was so excited. As we started up the red carpet, there came Jason Segel. We were seriously like 2 feet from him! We composed ourselves and remained cool. When we got in we figured we should poke around in the lobby and wait for Cameron Diaz to come in. My thought was, I better use the restroom now so I don’t have to go during the movie. So, I raced to the bathroom in hopes to get back to see Cameron. As I took a step out of the bathroom, I was greeted by three rather large men dressed in suits. Unfortunately, they were not very nice, and proceeded to raise their voice at me telling me to move. At this moment of confusion, Cameron Diaz then pops her head out from behind one of these huge men, places her hand on my shoulder smiling and says, “Oh my, I’m so sorry!” At this moment, my life was complete. I seriously don’t know how I responded. I think maybe my jaw dropped.

The movie was absolutley hilarious! Afterwards, we saw Jason Segel (again), Rob Lowe, Jolene Blalock, took pictures with Harrison Holzer and Ellie Kemper! It was definitely the best night here so far!

IM Global hires Leslie Chen to Spearhead Beijing Ambitions

So as I’ve mentioned before…I intern at IM Global, which really is THE BEST. And according to The Hollywood Reporter, IM Global is “one of the leading foreign sales, financing and production companies in the world.” And guess what. They just opened up their Beijing offices in China making them even more global! The company just hired well-known local executive Leslie Chen, who was most recently head of international sales at Huayi Brothers Media Corporation, to oversee its ambitions. According to the CEO Stuart Ford, (The man whom I willing retrieve an Americano Double for every Monday and Wednesday) “the bold expansion plans into Far East aims to harness the region’s international sales activity and oversee the releases of IM Global’s movies in mainland China as the territory becomes an increasingly important piece of the distribution jigsaw puzzle.”

To Ancient Times & Distant Music

“QUELF, THE LAND OF THE FARM!” Sorry to scream at you, I’m only attempting to give you an “in depth” experience of how I started this week. My roommates and a few friends decided to spend a few nights in playing Quelf. What is Quelf you ask? Quelf is the unpredictable party game that gives random a new name. This is no exaggeration. According to Urban Dictionary (which obviously is 100% accurate….eye-roll) says that Quelf leads you to perform a series of unordinary tasks that one would never consider doing in any sober state. Which again, is no exaggeration. We started out toasting to ancient times and distant music (hence the title), and ended up with a broken dinning room table and two broken wine glasses. Don’t ask.

On Tuesday we got to tour the set of Modern Family. Sadly, I’ve never seen the show so it wasn’t as exciting as when I saw the set of Pretty Little Liars. However, it was still super cool! Thursday we toured the set of Teen Wolf. Again, I’ve never watched the show, but it was by far the COOLEST set tour I’ve seen this summer. It was super awesome to see that their pre-production, production, and post-production are all done on one location. It was like I got to see the series through each step of the production process. And their sound stages are absolutely HUGE!

4th of July was nothing less than amazing. We rented an LA Party Bus to take 22 of us to Hermosa Beach. The bus was awesome, and had flashy lights, loud music, and a stripper pole (wait, what?). We all hung out on the beach for the day and got to watch an awesome firework show that night, then took the party bus back to Oakwood. It was definitely a 4th to remember!

Saturday me and the roommate made another trip to Runyon Canyon. This time WE SAW SANDRA BULLOCK! OK, calm down, we thought we saw Sandra Bullock. We followed fake Sandra all the way up Runyon Canyon attempting to build up our confidence to say something to her. When we did, we were surprised to find out that she was not Sandra. Bummer. But actually it wasn’t a bummer. This lady was super cool. Her name is Jennifer Saginor. She actually sold a screenplay right out of college and published the book Playground: A Childhood Lost Inside the Playboy Mansion. She told us about her childhood and how it inspired her to write the book. Her story is captivating. She’s currently writing a TV Series and asked us to meet up with her, sign an NDA, and bounce ideas off of each other. She’s so legit she even has a website: jennifersagnior.com. You should check her out.

Obviously, my week was just like past weeks, awesome. I’m going to go start season 1 of Orange Is The New Black now. Hopefully it’s a good as everyone claims it to be.

Until next week!

Johnny Depp in Black Mass

Okay so, remember how I mentioned in my first blog that I got to read the script for Black Mass? Okay, so here are the details. Black Mass is Johnny Depp’s new film, in which he will play Boston gangster by the name of Whitey Bulger. The film is an action crime-drama film written and directed by Scott Cooper, based on the 2001 book Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob. The script was amazing, so I can only imagine how much better the film will be!

Warner Brothers announced Monday that the film will be released Sept. 18, 2015. The date would appear to make the movie a prime candidate for a debut somewhere on the 2015 Venice/Telluride/Toronto film festival awards circuit. Scott Cooper is directing the crime drama for Warners and Cross Creek Pictures (which is where I’m interning…whoop whoop) It also starts Benedict Cumberbatch, Joel Edgerton, Kevin Bacon, Adam Scott, Dakota Johnson, Juno Temple and Jesse Plemons!

California Dreaming

They say that Hollywood is the city of dreams, and boy am I dreaming. There have been so many amazing opportunities presented to us this week that I can’t wait to share them all.

So on Monday we got to attend a panel discussion on documentaries. It was really awesome despite the fact that me and my roommate showed up 15 minutes late, awkwardly made our way to the front of the dark theatre in an attempt to find two seats together, accepted a mans offer to take his seat, then sadly watched him take a tumble landing pretty hard on his backside. After almost 10 minutes of (attempting to be quiet) laughter, we got to hear some awesome stories about the process of documentaries and tips on pitching ideas to production companies.

On Tuesday we were able to attend The Season 2 Premiere of The Bridge at the Paley Center! Yes, I actually saw Diane Kruger and Demian Bichir afterwards during the panel discussion! Picture below!

Thursday we went to the screening of Spike Lee’s The 25th Hour at The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences! I got to take pictures with Oscar, eat fancy cheese/crackers, and enjoy the open bar. Picture below!

Friday me and my roommate went to RUNYON CANYON. We were lucky to even make it considering we spent 40 minutes looking for a place to park (yes, this is a trend with us). And yes, Runyon Canyon is the hot hiking spot for all the celebs in Hollywood (but no, I didn’t see anyone famous…i don’t think.) Even if I did, you wouldn’t be able to tell considering everyone had fedoras pulled down to hide their faces, huge sunglass, and a lap dog with bows in their hair trailing closely behind them. After hiking all the way to the top of the canyon, we got a stunning view of the Hollywood Sign and all of Hollywood. It was awesome!

Sunday was the best! DISNEYLAND! I’m not going to lie, I am a huge Disney enthusiast. Days spent listening to “I just can’t wait to be King,” “Under the Sea,” & “A whole new world,” are days for the soul. They are necessary. So Sunday, was my soulful day. I saw Mickey and Minnie, Woody and Buzz, Ariel and Prince Eric, Pocahontas and John Smith, and the one and only LIGHTNING MCQUEEN AND MATER! In a weird way, I was a total fan girl. And to top off my childhood day, I left with a carmel apple. Perfect way to end the week.

Jurassic World

Jurassic Park fans prepare for Jurassic World. The newest Jurassic Park motion picture won’t open in theaters for another year, but today, viewers recieved a peek behind the scenes of the anticipated 2015 dinosaur disaster reboot, directed by Colin Trevorrow. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard star in the latest film in the franchise, adapted from the Michael Crichton novel. Director Howard states, “I feel like Jurassic Park was our generation’s Star Wars — it’s a really big deal.”

Jurassic World will catch up with the theme park 22 years after CEO John Hammond dreamt up the idea. Director Chris Pratt states, “People from around the world, 20,000 visitors a day, come to see the dinosaurs and see the several attractions. It’s been around long enough to where attendance starts to fall off a little bit. So they’ve decided to come up with a new attraction using the newest film to bring even more people in.”

Well Los Angeles just keeps getting a little more…exciting. This week has definitely been one for the books. Lets start from the beginning.

My internships went great this week. At IM Global I got to work on a distribution project for the company which was really cool, along with more script coverage. At first, I wasn’t too fond of the idea of reading script after script. However, after reading a few REALLY good scripts, I’ve learned to appreciate them more. Ok so, on to my awesome news: I got asked to help PA for the BET Awards this weekend! I’m super stoked.

Now the weekend definitely got hectic! Friday night me and a few of my roommates thought we would all go out for drinks in downtown Hollywood. After almost two hours of getting ready (like most girls do), we left in search for parking. We LITERALLY spent 45 minutes looking for parking. We FINALLY find a teenie-tiny parking spot we have to parallel park into. It takes 15 minutes for us to get into this little parking spot. As we get out and start walking towards Hollywood Blvd we read “No Parking Past 8PM.” Back to the car we went. Long story short, after much more searching we ended up in the Taco Bell drive thru and back to Oakwood.

Saturday I figured I would get a good workout by hiking up Eaton Canyon. Bad mistake. It was a torture trail straight up the canyon. Closest near death experience i’ve had in awhile.

Sunday on the other hand, was amazing! We toured Warner Brothers Studios! For all the Pretty Little Liars fans out there, I got to see Rosewood High School, Hollis College, and so much more! I also got to see all the actual costumes worn throughout the Harry Potter series, and got sorted. The sorting hat said, “Hmm, difficult. VERY difficult. Plenty of courage, I see. Not a bad mind, either. There’s talent, oh yes. And a thirst to prove yourself.” But obviously I got GRYFFINDOR! My life was made.

We’re two weeks in. If the next 6 weeks are anything like these past two, I have an exciting journey ahead of me!
